Are you working in Word every day? Are you still clicking the mouse? Every time you switch from the keyboard to the mouse you are working more slowly than you need to. Let Word shortcuts turn you into a power user. They are easy to learn and once you get started you’ll be impressed at your own efficiency.
Start by moving around the document. Try these shortcuts:
Move a word at a time | Ctrl left/right arrow |
Move to the beginning of the line | Home |
Move to the end of the line | End |
Move to the top of the document | Ctrl Home |
Move to the end of the document | Ctrl End |
Now select some text:
Select a character at a time | Shift plus left/right arrow |
Select a word | Ctrl-Shift plus left/right arrow |
Select to the beginning/end of the line | Shift plus Home / End |
Select a line | Shift plus up/down arrow |
Select paragraph | Ctrl-Shift plus up/down arrow |
Select everything | Ctrl A |
Once you have selected some text you can do something to it:
Bold | Ctrl B |
Italic | Ctrl I |
Underline | Ctrl U |
Or |
|
Delete it | Delete |
Or |
|
Copy | Ctrl C |
Cut | Ctrl X |
And then paste it somewhere else | Ctrl V |
Now try these common operations:
Ctrl P | |
Save | Ctrl S |
Save as | F12 |
If that list looks like a lot of effort to memorise just start with the last two – Save (Ctrl S) and Save as (F12). Every time you are about to reach for the mouse, use the shortcut instead. They should speed you up enough to convince you to learn the rest.
