Riverbank approved hardware and software
Computers
For servers and desktop computers we recommend Dell. They are one of the world’s biggest computer manufacturers, with good quality reliable products. They are easy to specify using the Dell web site. Talk to Riverbank before ordering your computers.
When supplying additional memory for computers our first choice is Lexar Media.
Servers need to be protected against power failure or fluctuations using a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). We recommend APC (www.apcc.com).
For network backup we use only Symantec Backup Exec.
For laptop computers we recommend Dell or Sony Vaio.
Printers
We generally choose Hewlett-Packard as a provider of high quality world-class technology. We also recommend Epson printers, particularly for inkjet printers. Ask Riverbank for advice before you buy.
Broadband routers, firewalls
Riverbank uses Sonicwall hardware for broadband connections and firewalls. They are reliable and robust. The recommended firewall is a TZ190.
VPN
For VPN hardware we use Sonicwall SSL-VPN boxes. They offer great value for money and give a reliable connection for even the least experienced computer user.
For box-to-box VPNs we recommend Sonic Wall TZ190.
IP telephony
We supply Epygi VoIP telephone systems with SNOM IP handsets.
E-mail and Microsoft Exchange
Additional pieces of software you should consider:
To protect your e-mail from viruses and spam we recommend two options:
- Filtering of incoming e-mail by CI-Net. This is low-cost and effective.
- Filtering of inbound and outbound e-mail using Message Labs. This premium service is world-renowned.
Network search
Other network equipment
We use and recommend Netgear equipment.
Synchronisation
If you need to synchronise or backup data between sites we recommend Peersync software.
Mobile e-mail
We recommend, supply and support Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices. For more information see the Riverbank guides.
Anti-virus and anti-spyware
Choose Sophos for the following reasons:
- Sophos is a global leader in anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-spam software.
- They produce good, reliable software.
- Sophos Anti-Virus software is installed centrally on the network, giving a single control panel showing the status of all computers on the network, including laptops that may only rarely connect to the network.
- Remote computers update direct from Sophos when they are not connected to the office network.
- Simplified administration with a single annual renewal.
- Sophos provides excellent technical support. As a Sophos Partner we have direct access to their second-level support team.
- Sophos is a UK company, based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
