Microsoft’s purchase of LinkedIn is a real sign of the times; Microsoft is in pursuit of people and data. All the value is in connecting people and becoming the channel through which everyone communicates.
It looks like the Microsoft strategy is that it wants Microsoft to be everybody’s professional home; we use Microsoft software, we store our data with Microsoft, we talk to our colleagues through Microsoft, we find our next job with Microsoft. Microsoft is our lifetime business partner and home.
It does feel a little big-brother-ish, but at least we are free to leave if we don’t like it.
