So, it’s official. Microsoft Teams will replace Skype for Business.

If you don’t know much about Microsoft Teams – the name tells you everything you need to know about the motivation behind it. Microsoft believes teamwork is crucial to the way that employees work today.

Since the launch of Microsoft Teams, the new chat-based workspace is being used in over 125,000 businesses across the globe.

Described as a ‘new vision for intelligent communications’, Microsoft Teams is a hub dedicated to collaboration. It combines all of the favourites from Office 365 – meetings, conversations, files and Office apps.

Along with this, over 100 new features have been added to Microsoft Teams since the preview in November 2016.

The key elements of Microsoft Teams

Collaboration

Teams have the ability to work on the same file at the same time. The threaded chat facility keeps all team members informed about any progress or changes. The default conversations are visible to the whole team, however, private chat can also be used.

Customisation

As teams have different needs, Microsoft Teams allows them to customise their experience to meet their requirements. Also, channels can be created by team members as a means to categorise conversations by subject. Along with this, the Tabs feature allows quick access to regularly used files and apps.

Security

Living within Office 365 means security is a key focus. ‘Data is encrypted at all times and covered by a transparent operational model with no standing access to customer data’.

Steve Miller, Sales Manager at Riverbank commented, “I’ve been playing around with some of the new Teams functionality. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a little bit in love with it.  It’s what modern work tools should be – the multi-user browser is particularly excellent. And that’s coming from someone who for a long time refused to use the OWA versions of Word and Excel because of how clunky they feel”.
