Now, operating systems are not things to get the pulse racing but if your are still running Windows XP on computers in your business you need to be aware of the risks you are running. In brief:
- Your XP computers are a security risk. Spend what you like on anti-virus software and firewalls, but you have a hole in your defences.
- Every hacker, Viagra-seller and penis-enlargement specialist around the world knows about the security holes in your PCs and will be trying to hijack them to send out spam emails, or worse.
- It’s a low-level threat but an insidious one. The threat but it will grow every month as new security holes are identified. These holes will be fixed for Windows 7 and Windows 8, but left wide open on Windows XP computers. Every hacker will know about them.
As we have advised before, this is neither a cause to panic nor a cause to scoff at the usual IT scaremongering. But it is an important reason to plan for the replacement of all your XP computers.
